Jason Bayani’s Locus is a doorway into that which is universal about the Filipino American1 experience in the BYay Area. His writing brings me (and surely many others) home, and I can’t help but feel a kinship with his childhood Fremont home a mere ten miles from my own. Bayani is another historian, not only of his family, but of the birth of the nation that we call the Philippines and interrogates the whiteness that has imposed itself on the country since the Spanish occupation in the 1500s.
