Cheers to another milestone made! We finished the second week of #NaNoWriMo2022!
For folks who are new here:
NaNoWriMo is a yearly challenge that takes place in November for writers to set aside time to add 50,000 words to their WIP(s)
Of course, this number is adjustable to your needs and lifestyle

My personal goal is to write 15,000 words this month cumulatively. With 2,662 words written so far, I have 12,338 words to go to meet my 15,000 word count goal this month!
Last week, I gravitated more towards my poetry chapbook. This week, I was more inspired to work on my script.
I shared the first draft with fellow poets and writers: my partner, mi gemela, Ellie Lopez, Kuya Butch Schwarzkopf, Jr. (who has a book out that you should buy!) and Dina Klarisse (who also has a book out you should buy!)
This lead to the second draft of my Western script, What We Lose in Time, totaling to a 1,556 word count at the end of week 2.
The most surprising thing about week 2 was the creation of two new projects!
Here is a recap of the existing projects I had already planned at the start of #NaNoWriMo2022:
Sci-fi/fantasy novel, titled Dox
A single scene Western script, titled What We Lose In Time
Poetry chapbook on family and lineage, titled The Language of Unbreaking
The first of the new projects is Tungkulin.
This idea came by way of inspiration from my former comics teacher (and fellow Visayan), Trinidad Escobar. Last summer, I had the honor and privilege of being one of the ‘21 Kearny Street Interdisciplinary Writer’s Lab Cohort.
The summer was split into poetry, fiction, and comics with an entire month was dedicated to each of the 3 subjects. Our third and final month focused on comics. We learned about the versatility of comics and its use in multimedia forms, such as poem-comics.
I was flipping through the sketchbook I kept during this portion of class and thought, why not create a chapbook of poem comics?
And thus, Tungkulin was born! This project will work as a 2-for-1 as it will force me to set aside time to draw and practice.
The last and newest WIP is a co-written poetry chapbook with Ellie Lopez (the very same one mentioned above!) titled Pan de Hija. We’ll be writing about our experience being eldest daughters, having Libra mothers, and learning and sharing our language(s).
Through it all, daily life and writing roadblocks, you made it! We have 2 weeks to go, and I can’t wait to talk with you all next week.
Happy writing!
