It’s that time of year again! Twice a year, folks roll up their sleeves for the trek that is either #NaPoWriMo (April) or #NaNoWriMo (November). And this year, I’m braving the beast that is #NaNoWriMo2022!
I’m excited to be active and present on the NaNo site (my profile is here); I also started an accountability thread on my Twitter listing the projects I’m working on this year:
Sci-fi/fantasy novel, titled Dox
A single scene Western script, titled What We Lose In Time
Poetry chapbook on family and lineage, titled The Language of Unbreaking
Because I’m unable to do math (of course), I fudged the numbers, so please don’t mind the incorrect totals above. The actual total word count I’m trying to reach is 15,000.
As much as I love all of my projects, I’m very much a mood writer. The flexibility to work on all three projects when I so choose, as well as a lowered word goal count, removes the perfectionist paralysis that tends to take over when I don’t accommodate my neurodivergent brain.
However, to hold myself accountable (and to reinforce a sense of deadline to my deadline-adherent brain), I’m going to write a short reflection every week detailing:
how writing was for me that week
which project(s) I gravitated towards
my total added word count
That being said, we made it to the end of the first week of NaNoWriMo! Regardless of your word count total, please pat yourself on the back! It’s difficult to stick to a routine, and you made it through the “first round”!
From Nov 1-Nov 6, I wrote:
1,468 total words
897 words for my poetry project
571 words for my script
I found myself more motivated to write for my poetry chapbook. Because of this, I’m extremely proud of myself for completing the first draft of my single scene script!
How did you do this week? Here’s to week 2 of #NaNoWriMo2022!
I’m rooting for you!
